Canettes de Ruelle (2023)
Canettes de Ruelle
Canettes de Ruelle aims to champion artistic freedom and unveil the myriad aesthetics and techniques within graffiti and murals. Collaborating with Vieux Rosemont's residents, the festival metamorphose alleys into vibrant, communal canvases merging the joy of painting with engaging public interactions. I was honoured to participate in the festival’s 2023 edition in collaboration with a colleague. Click below to learn more and see more pictures of the event.
Gab Lenfesty, my collaborator, specializes mainly in bird paintings. Given our high vantage point overlooking the alley, it seemed fitting to delve into this subject. Opting for a local bird was a deliberate choice to mirror the essence of the neighborhood. In sync with the festival's ethos, we depicted both male and female cardinals. Gab skillfully painted the female cardinal, while I took on the male, symbolizing solidarity and backing for gender equality. Emphasizing the female bird in the composition was a deliberate choice, aiming to counter the prevailing trend of predominant male bird imagery and allowing the female to claim a prominent presence.
